Yep, it’s December. It’s time to take a look at the year and appreciate all the people in your life. So many people impact our lives in so many ways, both positively and negatively. We should be grateful for both types in our life.

The positive influences are easy to appreciate. They help us solve problems, support us through challenges and inspire us with their words and actions. These Net Plus people help our lives be bigger and better. They are the first names on your holiday greeting list.

But we should be thankful for the Net Minus people as well. These are the people who are focused narrowly on their goals and needs. These are people who can’t have a conversation without looking for their opportunity to gain. These people have forgotten how to inspire and give to others. And, you should thank them, too.

Why should you be thankful for those Net Minus people? Those individuals remind us of how easy it is to fall into patterns that hold us back. Their actions are those of mediocre performance and an average life. They remind us that we want more and we can be better.

So, thank you to all the people in my life. Whether you are Net Plus or Net Minus, you have had an impact on me and are a valuable piece of my move forward to a better life. I appreciate the impact each person has had on me this year.

So, who do you appreciate for their Net Plus impact on your life? What have you learned from the Net Minus people? I’d love to hear your stories.

Ken

In this country, we have holidays for religious reasons and patriotic reasons. This week, we have a holiday to take time to remember what we are thankful for and honor those who began these traditions for us.

I’m thankful for all the people that have helped me solve challenges and achieve goals this year. My family and friends have made my life bigger and better by offering insight, providing connections or inspiring me with their words or actions. They have made a difference in my life and I hope that I have done the same for them.

Last week, I had the opportunity to help another group begin connecting with each other to make their lives bigger and better. Thursday, just one week before Thanksgiving, was my first presentation about Net Plus Connections. The Grand Rapids Small Business Breakfast Club graciously participated in the presentation and exercise that followed. The results are coming in already and they are amazing!

The exercise asked everyone to share successes, goals and challenges. Then, we opened up discussion to find how we can help each other solve the challenges and meet their goals. Here are a few connections that were made:
•	Book recommendations to solve a problem.
•	A resource to help with invoicing and audits.
•	A job connection for a daughter.
•	Testimonials for another persons’ business.

This list could be much longer, but I think you get the idea. People were helping people, even though they did not gain direct business by offering that help. It was a real connection with a real person to help them solve real challenges. What can be better than that?

I’d like to thank everyone who attended and participated. You were a great audience and the results that are coming in show how generous you are as well. My team really enjoyed meeting all of you and helping you learn about Net Plus Connections.

If you missed this event, more are coming. Together we will help each other have a bigger and better world.

Have a happy Thanksgiving!
Ken

The question applies to a multitude of people and things. Do you buy a cheap couch that you plan on replacing in a few years because it’s worn? Or do you buy a quality couch that will last in your home for decades? Do you keep making smaller repairs to your old vehicle? Or do you pool all the money you would spend on those repairs over the next 2 years and make a down payment on a new one?

What about people? Do you spend your time shaking as many hands and exchanging as many business cards as possible? Or do you look for one or two quality contacts and build a relationship that both of you will benefit from for weeks, months or years? Do you engage in conversations that solve problems or inspire you to bigger things? Are you a Net Plus person or a Net Minus person?

Each member of my team has joined because they want to engage in conversations. They want to go to work each day and help solve problems for others. They are truly quality people. Each one of them will tell you that they get as much out of these engagements as they give, if not more. I am lucky to have a team of Net Plus people.

Here’s the best part. With the right frame of mind and the right process, anyone can be a Net Plus person. It takes a bit more time than the quantity approach, but the results that come back to you are much longer lasting. By making life bigger and better for others, your life becomes bigger and better, too.

Want to learn more? Join me at the Grand Rapids Small Business Breakfast Club on Thursday, November 17, at 7:30 a.m. at the Dominican Center at Marywood. (RSVP online at http://www.breakfastclubinvite.info/ or contact Pamela Anderson on LinkedIn.) I will be speaking about Net Plus Connections. After listening, you can decide for yourself: quantity or quality?

Hope to see you soon!

In building Quantum Leap Communications, my team and I always strive to listen to all our clients’ challenges in business, not just the issues related to our business. It’s part of being trusted advisors for all areas of their business. Some companies tout that they are in business to help the customer but only when it benefits them. We are a communications technology and electrical company, yet my team and I have helped clients find solutions and connections with others to solve problems where we make no profit. It’s a pay-it-forward practice that is part of the culture here at Quantum Leap.

The principles I use are what I call being a Net Plus person. The benefits come back to me in time by connecting with really interesting people and helping make their world bigger and better. Sometimes I help with a business lead for them. Sometimes they need words of encouragement or ideas to spark their next steps. What ever they need, I do my best to help them.

What’s in it for me? Sometimes nothing. Sometimes a lot. It doesn’t have to financially benefit me, or my company, to make it a worthwhile effort. By being a Net Plus person, I have built a network and a reputation that has helped me succeed in life and in business.

In November, my team and I will kick off a new venture that includes a book, speaking engagements, workshops and coaching services on how to be a Net Plus person to succeed in life. The first challenge is to help the Grand Rapids Small Business Breakfast Club be more engaged with each other and help everyone be more successful in life. My team will be there helping me help you.

I hope you can join us on Thursday, November 17 at 7:30 a.m. in the Dominican Center at Marywood and begin your journey to become a Net Plus person. RSVP online at http://www.breakfastclubinvite.info/ or contact Pamela Anderson on LinkedIn.

I hope to see you there!

Is it time to expand your network of vendors?

A new report released by Gartner, a leading IT research and advisory company, questions claims that single-vendor networks are cheaper or more reliable than those that use two or more vendors. A recent Network World article sums up the report like this:

“Businesses are better off deploying multivendor networks, no matter what Cisco and other large network vendors may tell you… [E]nterprises can significantly reduce their costs and simplify their operations by deploying gear from at least two vendors in their networks.”

If you’re currently using a large, single-vendor, end-to-end network, it may be time to re-think your approach.

Thank you so much for sending Justin to our house to help us with our electrical needs. The level of customer service Justin and your company provided was amazing. I couldn’t believe you got out the day after I called, a much needed emergency service call to finish the electrical work in time to stay on track for our project.

I have lived in the Grand Rapids area all of my life and have never had an electrician I could count on and call, especially in an emergency. Until now that is. I will call you again in the case of any work we need done, and absolutely request Justin to do the work. He was kind, caring, and trustworthy. He checked with me to make sure we had covered all of our bases, and did an amazing job. Trusting workers in my house is extremely important to me, and I would gladly have Justin back at any time. I will pass on the name of your company to family and friends with confidence.
